2 Year Update

Woah, I cannot believe it's been nearly 2 years. Did I say the same thing at 1 year? One, thanks for all the correspondence. I am touched that so many of you have contacted me - some for advice, some just to vent, some to just tell me I've inspired them. I am touched by each and every email. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Two, my apologies for not posting sooner. I took photos, but never posted them. I've written posts and never posted them; shame on me. Three, I could not do comparison pictures because I'm now using a different camera. I'm going to try to get my old one to work so I can do some real comparisons.

So, two years. Wow. I have not done my measurements, but my clothes fit the same. I am 118 lbs. right now and was down to 108 during the summer. That is lower than my high school weight. I was laid off my job and I spent my days cycling and lifting weights, nearly every day. Also, I have gained weight due to my breast augmentation done at the end of December. My goal is to keep a nice weight of 114 - 116. I'll even go a little lower, but less than 110 is not a goal.

Am I still happy with the results? OMG, yes! I would never have the shape I do without the liposuction. I have no regrets and it was worth every penny. I need to remind myself sometimes though, especially when I'm feeling down on how I look. I am so much better now.

I've given out some advice on weight loss to many of you. All of us lipo girls have that concern post-surgery, of course. I am a big fan of the fasting diet. Here's the article that I read and it changed my life. I fasted weekly for 4 months straight last year and now I'm getting back into it. Check it out. http://tinyurl.com/58z8tq

The BA

I know I've dedicated this blog to my lipo, but I also had a BA on 12/26/08. Although I have documented it somewhat, I'm only going to share a few photos here. I'll have to take a full body shot so you can see the difference in my shape. Wow, what a difference boobs make. I LOVE them; I had no idea what I was missing. I had 300 cc's for both implants. I'm guessing I'm a full B. I have yet to get sized. My left one is dropping nicely and the right one is not. All in time though. It's such a great feeling to be able to fit into my shirts and dresses look sooo much better. I certainly feel more feminine too.

1 Year Update

I can't believe that tomorrow will be a year since my procedure. THANK GOD FOR LIPOSUCTION! Okay, I haven't posted in so long and I apologize, life has been going on and things have been a bit chaotic in my world. Here's a lengthy, but hopefully interesting update on my procedure.

Weight: 121 - I've gained another pound since January. I'm working on getting back down to 120; I don't think it will be difficult. I was at 123 recently. Do not, really do not eat walnuts and raisins together. It's like crack! I went a little nuts on the nuts and dried fruit and I paid for it in weight gain. Oh boy, the combination is beyond delicious, but never again and if so, in moderation.

Inches: I've gained 3 all over. I'll have to check with my trainer again to see if it's muscle or fat. I'm still a size 2, can fit into a few 0's and 4's are too big. I'm happy with my size. Things are fitting a little differently in the thighs, which are a good 1/2" larger. This is where I carry my weight. I'm hoping it's muscle and if it is, then GREAT! I'm actually an athlete now so I'm cool with that.

Health: I'm healthier than ever and still working out a lot. I've been getting bored with my routine lately, but it's rowing season so that's nice. I'm running farther distances now and I'm doing a half marathon in the fall. I finished my first indoor triathlon and came in 2nd in my age group, not bad! I have a few more competitions this year.

I've included images that are darker so you can see some muscle development. I've worked hard to get to where I am and I am not near where I want to be. This is a journey which I am enjoying 100%. I'm working on my diet to get a good mix that works for me. This can take years to find, ask any body builder. Of course, I do love the wine and chocolate is a nice treat. I'd be a rail if I didn't have those vices.

A BIG thanks for all the emails of support and inquiries over the last year. I am absolutely honored and touched that hundreds of you have reached out to me for advice or just kind words.

To all of you reading this because you are going to have your procedure soon OR you are thinking about liposuction, here are some tips. I'm sure I've covered most of them in previous posts, but here goes.

- Be realistic
- Start a healthy lifestyle NOW and maintain it
- Begin exercising NOW if you don't already (those that are in shape heal faster and have better recoveries on ALL injuries)
- You'll swell, get over it - you'll forget all about it 6 months down the road
- Eat clean and stay away from processed foods, high fructose corn syrup, fake sugar and MSG. If you can't pronounce it, don't allow that ingredient into your food
- Buy bromelain. I still take it and always will. It's an amazing supplement for muscle recovery and digestion

Hugs and kisses to all of you!!!

7.5 Months Post-Op

It's been forever since I've posted. I've been swamped. Since my last post, not much has changed. I have lost an additional .5 inch in my hips and that's about it. I now see a personal trainer 2x/week and I'm starting to see a lot changes in my body (most of which you cannot see in the photos). I still continue to exercise 6 days a week and I'm in love with my new shape.

A few changes:

- I love dresses now and feel 100% comfortable in them.
- I'm not stuck with "knee-length" anymore!!!!
- I ran my first marathon relay and beat my regular speed, twice!
- Still wearing a size 0/2

I am getting a revision in the next few weeks. Dr. White is removing some extra fat on my right outer thigh to even it out. When I walk, you can tell that it sticks out more than the other leg. I am also have fat injected in an area on my left anterior thigh. I have a small .5" indentation that's not noticeable in the photos.

I think some of the most exciting things is that I'm still getting used to my new shape. I've had to reprogram my thinking of what I can buy and what I look good in. Now, I try on and buy items that I'd NEVER wear in the past. My new shape has allowed me a new freedom and certainly a new look. I've also had so many people comment on how tiny I am. These people didn't know me pre-op and I'm still amazed; I guess I am little, however being 5'2" does help in the "small" category.

Good luck to all of you on your journeys!!!

It's been 5.5 months; here's where I am.

Alright, I'm almost at the 6 month mark and here are my stats. Let's start with the losses. This is one of the moments in life you celebrate losing something or in my case, lots of stuff.

Weight: 21 lbs.
Total inches: 21.75

Where you might ask?

Upper arm: 1.25
Natural Waist: 3.5
Low Waist: 2.75
Hips: 5.5
Upper Thigh: 3.25
Mid Thigh: 2.5
Knee: 2.25
Calf: .75

Old Size: 6, sometimes 8
New Size: 0 or 2

Jeans - Old Size: 30 (Citizens / 7s)
Jeans - New Size: 27 for the same brands, but they need to be dried after EVERY wear. Maybe a 26 is in the future?

I only had lipo on my bottom half, but the weight loss has made a tremendous difference. So, what am I doing? The same ol' stuff -- working out 6-7 days a week and eating a heavy raw diet. The only thing I added was a hardcore trainer 2x / week. She works me to the bone and I LOVE it. Since going to her for nearly 2 months, I've lost .5 inches on my arms and I'm getting defined. My goal is a very, very cut physique and I see it next year; woohoo!!!

I'll get some full body shots in soon; they show more results.

Oh, and if any of you are wondering, yes, I still swell.

Those Forums

Greetings readers! Again, my life has not slowed down at all, otherwise I would have had more posts on here. I got back from New York a week ago. My husband and I went to Enlightened Warrior Training Camp and it was monumental. As most of you already know, my life has completely transformed since my surgery. It's not just about my new figure, I have a new outlook on life completely. Anyway, enough about me and those things.

Today I want to write about something I should have months ago–forums. Most of you found my site from on of the many forums I write on and most of you that email me discuss the negativity of the forums. You may all of a sudden have fears that you didn't have. You may becoming paranoid of the what if's. You might be reconsidering your surgery. You might be scared of lumps and bumps and all the other processes of healing. Here are a few words.

Liposuction is surgery, not a massage at your local spa. Your doctor will beat the crap out of you with a cannula. You will bruise. You will be sore. You may have numb areas. You will swell and continue to have bad swell days months and months and months after your surgery. This is the HEALING PROCESS. If you eat McDonald's, processed foods, hydrogenated oils and other fattening items some people consider "food", you will gain weight. If you don't exercise and eat this so-called "food", you again, will gain weight unless of course, you are one of those few people that aren't effected by diet and exercise. Liposuction is not intended for weight loss.

Listen to your surgeon, do research and if you don't like what you read on forums, by all means, stop reading them for a while. That's exactly what I did. I became totally paranoid regardless of the research I had done. The forums are great for information; I am not going to argue that, however there are some people that just want to complain about everything. Then all of a sudden, you're thinking to yourself, am I going to have THAT? Am I really going to swell? Oh my goodness, it's been 3 weeks and I am still the same size. Well, everyone is different and heals at a different pace.

Remember, fear is in the future and nothing has happened yet. There's no reason to waste that energy. Focus on the present and take some time to enjoy your body's transformation.

Lipo. It's only the first step.

It has been forever since I've posted. Again, another apology. I'm swamped with so much stuff that it's unreal. I'm leaving for the Catskill Mountains in a few hours and I just had to post something.

One, thanks for all the support out there. You ladies have been amazing and I am so grateful and touched that you consider me an inspiration.

I have little time to write, but I just want to let you know where I am with everything. Liposuction is only the first step in getting me to where I have always wanted to be physically. As you have probably already read on my blog, I am an avid exerciser and even more so now since I actually SEE results. It is so amazing and so wonderful to finally see changes from all of my hard work. Years and years of exercising did nothing to my lower half. I always maintained the pear shape, hence how incredibly easy it was to get unmotivated and just give up. Why work your ass off when it's not going to go anywhere, right?

Anyway, long story short, I've been amazed with my progress and at the time I had my surgery I promised myself a full year and a half to completely transform my body. I know I'm on the right path. I've hired a private trainer that hands my ass to me every time I see her. I'm still at an 18 lb. weight loss and I have purchased TWO size 0 pants. I didn't get to this point just from lipo; I have worked my ass off for all of this!

I hope that some of you feel the same way about your surgery or your upcoming surgery. Lipo is not a tool for weight loss and I hope that it gets you motivated to be good to your body, to start or maintain a clean diet and daily exercise.

hugs & kisses

Almost 4 months post-op

Let me apologize first for not posting for several weeks. I have been so unbelievably busy that I have had NO time whatsoever. I will be four months post-op in the next five days and I'm fitting into my new shape just fine, however my tan is a little scary. Here are the stats:

Weight lost: 17 lbs
Inches lost: 18
Down 2 sizes to a size 2

I still continue to work out 5-6 days a week and I'm still eating 60 - 70% raw and I feel AMAZING all the time!!! I am hiring a trainer so you and I will be seeing some pretty big transformations in the upcoming months, I hope.

What my husband has to say

I know a lot of you have concerned husbands. He doesn't think you need the surgery, he doesn't want to spend that kind of money, etc. My husband and I have a great relationship, but when it came to lipo, there was no room for negotiation. I get what I want when it comes to doing stuff for me. I had him write his thoughts so some of you and your husbands/boyfriends/lovers can have a guy's perspective.

Words from Tazu:

Initially I was somewhat against Natasha having a pear-ectomy. It was

20% "only vain yuppies have lipo" mentality
10% "you should be happy with the body God gave you" mentality
20% "what are you talking about, you're already hot" mentality
30% fear for her safety
and 20% afraid she'd end up on awfulplasticsurgery.com

My wife does what she wants to do anyway, so I knew I'd better get over it, although I still worried about the last two worries, naturally.

Now that it's done, I'm thrilled about it. She looks HOT! The real reason I'm thrilled though is that it's done wonders for her emotionally. Also, it has re-ignited her devotion to physical fitness. I'm sure you can imagine what happens to the sex life when the woman looks and feels sexy!

I've gone from having to hear about her hating her body and talking about fat all the time to the opposite, which can be just as tiring, but not depressing -- a trade I'd happily make any day!

I also believe, though, if someone wants to go this route, one must do lots of research, as well as be dedicated to not just fitness but health also. Good luck.

6 Year Progression - Woah!!!!

Okay, let me be honest. I'm not proud to put these shots up. The one from 2001 is when I was at my largest, something I'm not proud of at all and frankly, I'm embarrassed to show this to any of you, but then again, my mission is to help you and to tell you that I've been there before.

Here goes. Here are 4 images (3 pre-op) of my progression from being unhealthy to working out again to working out with added strength training. I've left notes of my exercise regimen and diet on the sides of the images and there's quite a difference as you can see. (click image to enlarge and read text)

Lipo has worked exceptions for me and I can't even believe I was that person in 2001 or 2003. I am so much healthier now.

Good luck to all of you in your journeys and decision process. Still, this is the best thing I've ever done. You only have one body to live in so make it the body you want!

I'm still a loser!

Tomorrow I'll be at 3 months post-op and it seems that in the last 2 weeks my shape is changing into something new. It's slight, but my mid-thigh seems a smaller. You can click on the images to have them enlarge. I see a difference just from day 76. Am I imagining this or can you see it? I've lost another 1.5 inches in just 14 days. I also noticed that the two days I didn't take my bromelain, I was more swollen especially around my stomach.

Sorry I haven't posted in so long, I've been out of town and now I'm preparing for yet another trip this week. I have some good things coming your way, specifically an interview with a massage therapist / acupuncturist to discuss foods and herbs that dissipate inflammation.

Who's getting what done?

It seems that since the American Society of Plastic Surgeons published its 2006 data, every magazine and newspaper is throwing those statistics in every possible article.

Here are the top 3 surgical procedures, if you haven't read it elsewhere a million other times.

1. Breast Augmentation
2. Rhinoplasty
3. Liposuction

I have combed over the data and have done a little digging on my own and there's one huge statistic that seems to be missing. How many women (and men) have multiple procedures?

I've had multiple procedures and I'd say half of the women I know who have had plastic surgery, have also had multiple procedures. Here are my questions to the ASPS:

How many women consider more cosmetic surgery after they have had their first procedure?
How many procedures do women have, on average (invasive and non-invasive)?

I can't be the only one thinking of this and I'm surprised that the ASPS doesn't have anything published in this category. From a business and marketing standpoint, I think the industry should really start considering these aspects.

Just a thought.

Day 76 Update

Who said being a loser is bad? I'm down another 1.5 inches and another pound. Here are some comparison pics of me in a suit. The old pic was taken nearly 4 years ago and I weighed about the same back then. It's amazing what lifting weights can do to your weight.

Today's stats:

Height: 5'2" (still the same, darn)
Weight: 123 (14 lbs. lost)
Inches lost: 14.75 (I'm not going to go look for them either)

The FAT Pants

We’ve all done it. We’ve kept a pair of “fat pants” in the closet, hidden away so no one can see them. And we also have the skinny pants in there as well, not so hidden, but we try them on every once and a while to see where we measure up and decide to either go on a crash diet or let out a sigh of relief when we realize that we're the same size and those pants are still a little snug.

Well, I found my fat pants. I gained a bunch of weight and kept it on for around a year and a half. It sucked, but I didn’t know that at the time. Remember, I was out at restaurants drinking and eating awesome fattening food, why would I think I was fat when things were so fun?

So, during my bigger days and this was way before my lipo, I weighed close to 150 lbs. I think I was 146 or something. For someone my height, that’s a lot of weight.

This image will live on forever and I promise to be faithful in maintaining a healthy lifestyle, but these pants are going in the trash! Woohoo!

These pants are a size 12 and I am now a size 4 and fit into some size 2 pants. If this isn't motivating, I don't know what is.

Current diet and exercise

After my procedure I switched to a heavy vegan raw diet. I've been vegetarian for 24 years and was vegan for four years so moving to a 70%+ raw diet wasn't a hard switch or abnormal for me. It's a feel good diet too. I lost 13.5 lbs since my surgery. I attribute that to lipo, diet change and stopping birth control pills.

Now, I'm beginning to incorporate more cooked foods, specifically veggies, whole grains and eggs on occasion. Eggs don't make my diet vegan anymore, but I'm looking to add more lean proteins into my diet to lose fat. I've been reading a lot of periodicals and info from body builders and it seems that I need to up my intake of lean proteins and fiber. I probably eat way too much fruit too so I'm going to cut back a little on the berries and apples, which I eat every single day.

On the topic of exercise: pre-op I worked out 5-6 days a week with 30 - 60 minutes of cardio and 15 - 25 minutes of strength training. I mostly did interval walk / jog for my cardio. Now, since running is a bit jarring and bothers my left thigh if I run too many days in a week, I've been doing a lot of different activities. I bike 21 miles on a rough flat trail most weekends, swim, run, elliptical, row (on erg and in boat), do yoga on occassion and bike on a stationary bike and do strength training. It's a nice variety and I still stick with 5-6 days per week.

Now that the fat is gone, exercise is even more motivating because I can actually SEE the changes. My objective now is to change the shape of my body. Develop lean muscles in my arms, separate the muscles so I have some amazing definition and develop my leg muscles so I have good defined cuts. It's so absolutely wonderful to visually see the change. I've always been an off and on exerciser. I'll go years exercising and then will quit for a year and then go back to it again. I think this time it's sticking with me. And I'm not getting comments on how I've gotten smaller, but comments on how fit I look. Whatever people think it is, that's fine. I have this wonderful feeling that isn't going to go away!

If you have any suggestions on diet or exercise, please email me or leave a comment. I'd love to hear from you.

Two month update

I reached two months this Wednesday. The only changes I'm seeing in my body is more muscle development. I've always had really muscular legs, but now i can see some amazing muscles in my thighs. For instance I can see the muscle on the anterior portion of my thigh when I do squats or go down stairs. At first I was freaked out that I had some crazy indentation in my legs from lipo, but oh no, that's muscle and that's wonderful! I'm having a hard time getting the lighting just right so it's hard to see in this picture, but you can kind of see the line in my thigh. I love seeing muscle!!!

Back on the pole

Last night I took a pole dancing class. I got the okay from my surgeon that a pole rubbing the skin on my inner and outer thighs would not ruin my results. OH MY GOD, my inner thighs are sore and I think I see a few bruises forming. Now, I'm not new to pole work. I actually have been pole dancing on my own for exercise for the last four to five years, but it's been a good nine months since I've had the opportunity to swing around one. Nonetheless, it was fun and I was back to wanting to do all of my old tricks and learn some new ones, but I was in a beginner's pole dancing class. It's a rarity to find advanced pole dancing classes, but the instructor said she'd work with me individually on inversions and advanced moves; thank goodness because I don't want to get bored.

Ladies, if you ever want to swing around a pole, DO IT! It's fun, great exercise and you rely on your own strength and finesse for every move. Swing on!

A Size Two?

I actually fit into a pair of size 2 pants yesterday! I have already purchased a pair of 4's, but I would never, ever, ever think that I'd be able to squeeze into 2's. On top of that, I didn't have to squeeze into them at all. They weren't my normal brand so it doesn't mean that much, yet.

I also just purchased a XS in gym pants; wow!

These are just a few WOW moments I thought I would share. It seems that I'm seeing some different changes in muscle development in my legs as well. It's so nice to see the change, my legs were too covered in fat before. Now my lower half will actually represent all that time I put in at the gym; that's a first.

8 Week Update

Today I'm at the 8-week mark. I am still having slight changes here and there, but nothing like what I saw in the first month. Of course, I still have a solid four months to see my final results. Here are the 8 week stats; everything is listed as before and after.

Weight: 137 / 124
Height: 5'2" / 5'2" (damn!)
Jeans Size: 30 / 27 - 28
Pants Size: 6 / 4

Measurements: I took measurements all over my body and since I've lost some weight, I've lost inches in areas that were not treated. Here are my current results.

Waist: 29.5 / 27
Hips: 38.75 / 35.75
at Belly Button: 30.75 / 30
Upper thigh: 24 / 21.75
Mid thigh: 22 / 20
Knee: 17 / 16
Upper Arm: 11.25 / 11

Garments & Shapewear

I'm 8 weeks post-op tomorrow and I still haven't given up my garment(s). Every now and then I will go without it, but I've been jogging lately and the jarring movement has made my left leg a little sore, so I remain close to my garment.

Here are the garments that I own and a little review on each.

Merana: LOVE IT! It doesn't roll on my waist when I bend. This is my favorite garment for hard workouts. I am usually in this one unless I am washing it or I want to wear a dress, which is rare.

Spanx Power Panties: I bought this years ago. It's okay and doesn't quite have the annoying roll at the waist.

Spanx Hide & Sleek: I just bought this one a few days ago and have worn it only once. I wish it came in a XS, but it doesn't. It's comfy and doesn't make my butt look weird when wearing tighter clothes. I think I'll be wearing this often.

Nancy Ganz (both): I have a medium (tan) and a small petite (cream). They both have nice compression and clothes fit very well, but the band rolls at the waist, which is something I'm not fond of at all. If I sat less, I'd like it more.

Scars: Massage them and stay out of the sun

There is no doubt that you’ll have post-operative scars after liposuction, but whether or not they are noticeable depends on your skin type, color and your body’s tissue. These scars usually range from 4-10mm long and many of them are in areas that are less noticeable, for instance where you have skin creases.

Before you head your new sexy body to the beach (or tanning bed), make sure you are prepared with this knowledge. Scar tissue takes approximately a year to mature and is actually 80% as strong as non-altered skin. Sun exposure can cause collagen degradation, hypo- and hyperpigmentation, burns, permanent redness and more. So, to summarize, your scar will change in the sun. It will get darker and more noticeable if you do not take precautionary steps, like using a very strong sunscreen or zinc. Some physicians even say that even the strongest sunscreen won’t help, so place some surgical tape over your scars. I’m not sure that’s going to look the best when you’re on the beach or at the pool, but if you’re in the privacy of your own backyard…

If your scars are raised and they might be, massage them every day with your fingers or a round tool. Massage is a healing tool and it allows the tissues to break up and promote blood flow. You do not need to live with raised scars! There are a lot of scar diminishing creams out there and I’m not sure which ones are best, but I do know that you should massage your scars every day, even up to two times per day. I have olive skin and I don’t anticipate my scars fading too much. You can see how dark they are in the pictures. I have mosquito bite scars that are over five years old, it's just a fact about my skin.

Good luck and whatever you do, take care of your scars!

Swelling throughout the day

Everyone complains about the swelling so I thought I would take you through one of my days so you can see for yourself the changes.

Here are the specs and this was a very busy day for me and I had no time to eat.

Morning pics: Taken an hour after I had woken up (8AM)

Lunch: One raw power bar (no breakfast)

After yoga pics: Taken 20 minutes after a 90 minute hot (88 degrees) power yoga class

Evening food: One apple with almond butter at 3:30 PM, cup of black bean soup (at 10PM), one Michelob Ultra (1:45AM)

After work pics: taken after a 10.5 hour bartending shift. I was on my feet and on the move the entire time.

The swelling is noticeable and I could totally feel it by early evening. It subsides by early morning and usually happens again the next day, depending on my activity. My tip, drink lots of water and stay away from salt. It provides for an uncomfortable time.

Smoking and surgery

There are many smokers out there and your surgeon has asked you to stop smoking several weeks before surgery and to continue not smoking after post-op. It doesn’t seem like that big of a deal, having a cigarette here or there and it’s easier to have a few than to quit, right?

Here’s why you shouldn’t smoke before and after your surgery.

Smoking interferes with healing because it reduces the blood flow to your cells, reduces the ability of hemoglobin to move oxygen and reduces the amount of oxygen released to the cells. Doesn’t sound too bad, huh? Well, think again. All the cells in your body NEED oxygen. It’s not 100 million out of the 10 – 100 trillion cells you have that need oxygen; each and every cell needs oxygen so you can move, build and basically live. If your cells aren’t getting all the oxygen they need, you get reduced blood flow and your healing will be delayed. This reduction in blood flow can result in skin loss during the healing period. These problems can destroy the results of liposuction and lead to revision surgery. Now, who wants that?

So, would you rather stop smoking for your surgery and your health or have a slower healing time? I would think that you’d want to show off that new body as soon as possible!

Here’s my tip to help you stop. It sounds crazy, but believe me, it works. I stopped smoking this way, as did my husband. He has been smoke free for eight years and I just celebrated my 824th day of cigarette freedom (I’m not counting the days, I got an anniversary email from quintet). Ready? When you’re craving a smoke, smell a lit cigarette (don’t light it yourself). Don’t smoke it, but wave it around in front of your nose and smell it, then smell it again. Do this each time you want a cigarette and never smoke one. It’s not necessarily the best method because you are still getting second hand smoke, but if it can help you quit, then it’s a good method. Try this and keep your mouth fresh at all times (cigarettes taste gross if you have a minty-fresh mouth). If you can go 72 – 96 hours without a cigarette, you have a better chance of success because the nicotine is leaving your body, how awesome is that! Another thing, the patch, gum, and all of those tools that can help you stop will delay your healing as well. The best thing for you is support.

Another note: I smoked when I had rhinoplasty over 12 years ago and I’m confident it delayed my healing. I’ve been smoke free for over 2 years and I cannot believe I was even a smoker. You’ll get there too, if you want.

Day 38 Pics

Well, I can hardly believe it's been over five
weeks; wow. I haven't changed too much since last week, but I still keep measuring and taking pics. I want to document the entire process for myself and all of you.

I will be documenting a day of swelling in the next week. I'm waiting for my menstrual bloat to go away so I can document the day in pics as well
as give you an idea of what I have eaten
throughout the day. As you probably already know, I'm not a complainer of swelling. It's part of the process. I'd rather be this size now with swelling than my pre-op size. I'm sure you all agree. It will take some more time and I have that on my hands, thank goodness.

Enjoy and comments are always welcome. If you ask a question in the comment section; I will answer you in the comment section.

hugs & kisses!

The importance of massage

Want a smooth body after liposuction? This is what liposuction4you.com says about massage.

"Some surgeons recommend that you massage the treatment areas to prevent scar tissue build up and lessen the chance of dimples and dents. Some surgeons insist that if you do not massage natural scar tissue formation will form within the "tunnels" created by the cannula and will begin to contract and lump up pr pull your connective tissue and superficial fat down with it creating undesirable surface irregularities. Patients are usually instructed to massage beginning at a week post-operatively and for about 15 minutes a day. Vigorous massage is said to prevent fibrous bands of scar tissue to contract around your existing fat and will also help with edema (swelling)."

I personally spend 20 minutes each night massaging my legs with my handy dandy roller (pictured). The roller is used for crafts, printmaking, you name it and it has truly helped me out. When you have the time, treat yourself to an hour our more with a massage therapist. It's not only good for the body; it's good for you soul.

Finally, some new pants

Most of you know that I have practically no pants to wear. It's been really annoying trying to get dressed and look like I didn't take a big dump in my pants.

Yesterday, I finally found a decent, inexpensive pair of jeans. It's really, really hard for me to buy non-designer jeans and when I thought I could just go buy a pair I tried on last week, I was shocked that they were too loose and I'm now in between sizes; HOLY MOLY! Last weekend, 29's fit fine, now they are WAY too big in the waist, I can take them off without unbuttoning them, not good. So, I ended up buying a pair of 28's (my pre-op size is 30). They're snug, I have to admit, but I think after a week or two and a few wears, they'll be perfect. I really thought that I couldn't possibly go down another size, or half size rather. It just shows me that I must be more swollen than I think. Funny thing is, I still have to have them altered. Who are these women that have a 500" inseam? I'm only 5'2", but please!

I know many of you are facing the same battles and patience pills do help, but I seriously need to overdose on them. Luckily I work from home 80% of the month and when I do go to my office, it's ultra casual. I feel for you guys that need a new outfit everyday for work and play, that would kill my pocketbook.

If you're interested, the brand is Vigoss and I found them in the BP section of Nordstrom's. I ordered some Sevens on Ebay. If they end up too big, I can just resell them.

Good luck to all of you with the same frustrations.

Additional Day 30 pics

I figured I should update the anterior and side shots too. I never knew I could have an ass that looks like that; WOW!

Day 30 update

I'm a little over a month and still amazed at my results. I still have a lot of swelling on my outside thighs, stomach and above my butt. My size hasn't change much more, but I feel more contoured.

I had lymphatic massage earlier this week and it was completely relaxing. I think I fell asleep for a third of it. I'm not sure if it helped at all so I'm chalking it up to just having a nice, light touch massage. Swelling comes and goes, so I'm not too concerned. It comes and goes even if you didn't have lipo; it's just a fact of life.

I've been working out almost every day and feeling amazing. I am continuing to eat a 70 - 90% raw, vegan diet. I can't believe how great it makes me feel. I have energy all day and night. I used to go to bed by 10:30 and wake by 6:30 to go work out. Now I go to bed any time between 11 and midnight and wake up at 6:15. Raw totally makes a differnce. I didn't have a bad diet before; I've been vegetarian for 24 years.

On another note, I'm getting so much stuff done. No more slacking. This has been such a great psychological uplift. I really had to take this step to tackle other thing going on in my life.

Garment or leggings?

Okay, there's only so much in my closet I can wear these days. Since pants are hard to come by and I'm still waiting on my shipment from an ebay seller, I'm left with being a bit on the creative end with my garment. Since I had my knees done, I have to have a capri-length garment. I don't think anyone would think twice that I'm not wearing leggings. This really isn't my style and a bit on the trendier side, but it works.

The new look in clothing

I can't fit into any of my jeans, but I can fit into my husband's. He wears a 29 in Seven for all Mankind. I'm waiting a little while to go shopping since I'm still shrinking. Here you can see that my legs are much more even with the top half of me; what a great feeling!!! I've also included a shot in a new dress I bought. I have to have something to lounge around in (it's way too long to go out in public). I have never in my life even considered getting a straight cut dress; it was only A-lines for me, until now! It's not the best shot or the best dress, but I don't have thunder thighs under there which is awesome.

Pics up to day 22

Every few days I see change; I LOVE it! So far, I've dropped 11 lbs. since pre-op. I'm hoping to go down a total of 18 lbs and keep it off. I've incorporated a lot more raw food into my diet and I'm no longer doing dairy - yahoo!

My emotional and psychological benefits from lipo

A lot of people don't understand why people get cosmetic surgery. I have been an advocate for it since I understood what it was. Here's a bit of history on my experiences, many dating way, way back. A lot of it is personal, however until you walk in someone else's shoes, don't judge why someone has lipo, rhinoplasty, breast augmentation, or anything else. You can't possibly understand how they feel when they see themselves in the mirror.

I've had body image issues since I was a small child. Be careful when you call a kid fat or chubby because it can do some serious damage. I was never fat or obese, but I had thick legs. I was always active and never fit properly into clothing. As far as I can remember, I've had these issues. I'm not talking as far back as high school, I'm talking about being 5 years old.

Fast forward to the age where I can begin making my own decisions. I became bulimic when I was 13 or 14 and that continued until I was in my early 20's. I would starve myself and take lots of speed hoping that one day I'd be thin and get rid of my thighs. Guess what, it never happened. I got small, but you would never ever think that I could possibly have an eating disorder. I also exercised through the majority of this time as well. Being fit never did anything to rid of my butt or thighs; ugh, the pain!

As I got older, I rid of my self-destructing behavior and continued to exercise and eat a daily diet of 2-3 bagels, a lot of caffeine and a load of cigarettes. I wasn't binging and purging anymore, but my diet was horrifying. I didn't really eat because of all the caffeine and cigarettes.

After nearly 15 years of being dissatisfied with my body I decided to just let it go. I ate anything I wanted, drank a lot of alcohol and reached a size 12! I was mortified once I realized I had gotten fat. I'm only 5'2" so I was really big. I was almost 150lbs. and miserable. That lasted almost a year and then I began the South Beach Diet. I lost 25 lbs. and felt great. I started working out again and well, still not satisfied. I could build muscle in my legs, but you could never see it because there was such a HUGE layer of fat.

Since the South Beach Diet, I stopped smoking and started exercising again. I've been eating extremely healthy for years and take a lot of glyconutrient supplements to keep my body in tip-top shape. I've been a size 6 for the last 4-5 years I believe, the same size I was when I had a diet of caffeine and cigarettes.

My decision to have liposuction was any easy one. If you read my first post, I've been wanting the surgery since I was in my early 20's. Now, I'm 33 years old and I am so absolutely pleased that I had it done. I am able to look at myself for the first time in my life with no disgust. I can try on clothes and not have a breakdown because nothing fit. I'm not just a "pretty in the face" girl anymore. I have never felt this good about my being or being alive. The only thing I can do is continue to do what I do and watch my body shrink. I'm only on day 22 and my life has completely changed.

20 Day Post Op Appt.

I met with Dr. White today. Things are going well and I still have a lot of swelling. I've only lost around 30 - 40% of my swelling which is amazing considering I'm already enamored by my new look. He is such a talented surgeon! I was also corrected; I had 3950 cc's removed NOT 3900. I'll update pics in a few days. I still feel amazing inside and out; I don't think that's going to change anytime soon.

A better comparison pic

Day 17 pics

Here are the newest shots. The pictures don't really show the changes as much as I'd like. I've lost a lot of inches and my shape is so very different than before. Here's what I've lost so far in inches:

Waist: 1"
Hips: 1.75"
Knee: .5"
Upper thigh: 1.5"
Mid thigh: 2"

This is so Awesome!!!

Back to the gym!

I got back in town last night and all week I've been itching to get back to my workout routine. I usually do a combo of running, walking, cycling and strength training. Today, I cycled 7 miles, walked 1.5 miles and did 30 minutes of weights. I feel AMAZING! I think I'll be able to start running in the next week or so.

I'll update with pics tomorrow.

I love the new me!

Back to work & travel

I have been working since I was 6 days post-op, but now it's time to start traveling again. I'm basically back to normal and have been able to get back to walking a lot and working around the house. I only have a problem with bending my knees past a certain point, which I believe has a lot to do with the garment I'm in.

I'm going to start back up at the gym this week. It has been killing not being able to work out, however I know how important it is to allow my body to heal on its own schedule. I'm looking forward to lifting weights and getting back into some type of exercise routine. I'm hoping my knees will allow me to at least start on the bike by Friday.

I'll post some pictures later this week. The swelling is going down nicely and my pre-op clothes are literally starting to fall off of me. I am so glad I had the surgery; this has completely changed my life and how I feel about myself. No longer will I have to ask, "Does this make me look fat?" This is the first time in 10 years that my husband hasn't had to hear that; I'm sure he's elated.

Day 10

Here are some more pics. There's really no change in my swelling since Day 6. My knees are still the same size as pre-op as they are super swollen.

Garments

There are so many garments out there and everyone wants to know what is best. I personally am wearing a Merana garment (Phase I) and I find it very comfortable. Next week I get to change to a regular garment that you can purchase at a department store. I have purchased a Nancy Ganz garment. It seems comfortable, however I am concerned that there won't be enough compression so I'm still on the search. Here's a list of companies that make garments. Hope it helps.

  • 3900 cc's removed (8-9 lbs)
  • general anesthesia
  • had a hard few days with medications, left with only Tylenol after 1.5 days post-op

  • taking bromelain, arnica, glyconutrients, antioxidants, endocrine support supplements
  • strict vegetarian diet, practically vegan
  • drinking lots of lemon and water
I'm feeling fantastic and EVERY day is a "Wow" day. I'm so pleased with the results and I am still very swollen.

Best lunch of the week

I have a tendency to eat the same thing for days. Here's my latest lunch that's light and healthy. The combination of the broccoli sprouts and dill is delicious. Don't be scared, there's no reason to add any dairy. This is bland enough for the first week post-op and the lemon will help with the swelling.

  • Ezekial 4:9 sprouted grain bread or wrap
  • sliced avocado
  • sliced cucumbers
  • sliced tomatoes
  • lettuce
  • broccoli sprouts
  • dill
  • mustard of your choice
  • squeeze of lemon

Day 6

Here are some pics finally. I am very swollen and will remain so for a long time. I've included a closeup of the indentations I have from the foam.

Day 5

Every day is better! I'm doing quite well today and tomorrow I get my foam removed. I cannot wait! I'm so done with the foam. It's starting to really bother me even though I know its purpose outweighs my irritation.

Yesterday I finally left the house; it felt so good to run errands. The vibration of the car on the highway was the weirdest feeling. I am no longer walking at glacial speed either. For those of you in recovery or soon to be recovering, take it easy, but keep moving. When I felt my worst, I got up and moved around the house or would walk down the block. It truly helped. I have been having major back pain from sleeping on my back (I'm a side-sleeper) and walking has eliminated the pain throughout the day, well, that and a nice ice pack.

I found my camera cord so pics will be up soon.

Day 2

I was able to eat food today and keep it down. I'm a bit nauseous still, but I haven't gotten sick. My recovery has been so-so. I had some adverse reactions to my medications (heart beat up to 110 beats / minute while sitting) today so my PS has told me to stop all medications. I am allowed tylenol. My heart beat is still a bit high and it's been 10 hours since my last dosage of medicine.

I was to shower today, but I'll do it tomorrow since I don't want to get sick. I've walked around the block several times today which made me feel much better. My back is killing me since I've been sitting so much.

Movie today: Kontroll - I highly recommend it; it's a Hungarian movie based in the subway system of Budapest.

Thursday, April 26, 2007

It started out as a great day

I woke up feeling amazing. I felt great and was not in any pain. As the day progressed, all movement made me ill and by late this afternoon, I couldn't even hold water down. All of my medication have nausea and vomiting as symptoms; argh! Hopefully, I'll be able to keep a few crackers and soda down tonight.

On another note, I watched Brokeback Mountain; it's good and I recommend seeing it.

Wednesday, April 25, 2007

It's done; let the healing begin

The day finally came and went with success. Now that I'm not in an anethesia / morphine fog, I can focus on my healing. I got sick a few times at the surgery facility, but I'm feeling good now. My awesome husband has been waiting on me hand and foot. I'm extremely swollen and somewhat bruised. I get to shower on Friday so I'll be able to see what's exactly under my garment.

Laura: I hope you're doing well! Keep me posted.

The big day!

24 hours from now I'll be lounging around my house, recovering. I've been out of town and busy so I haven't been able to post any new before pictures. For those of you that are also going in on 4/25, good luck!

The truth about pineapple

For those of you that are eating pineapple for anti-inflammatory effects, stop. I know you're doing this because Bromelain is derived from pineapple. What you may not know is it is derived from the stump or root part of the pineapple; these are areas that I'm sure you're not willing to eat or naw on. This is the only part of the fruit that carries the enzyme that has medicinal effects. So, take your Bromelain if you want, but there's no reason to stuff your face full of pineapple unless you just really love the fruit.

Wednesday, April 18, 2007

Ah, what to buy...

I need to get my act into gear and start buying stuff from my recovery which is just one week away. My list is short and includes the following:

  • Arnica Montana
  • Support socks so my ankles and feet don't swell and bruise (I'm calling the surgery center to see if they provide them first -- thanks Ryan!)
  • Throw away cups or a funnel so I don't necessarily have to put my poor butt on the toilet seat
  • Water, water, water, water and more water (I don't think the 2 cases I have are going to cut it)
  • Lemons and more lemons
  • Flat crib waterproof mattress pad in case I leak like a fountain
  • Some good food to cook (veggies, stuff for soup, etc.)
  • Extra garment
  • Possibly a new blowup mattress (the Aero twin that sits up high)
I already have
  • Wedges to keep my feet elevated (thanks to Mom)
  • Arnica spray
  • Small stool to sit on for showering (I don't want to pass out or fall)
  • Tylenol
  • My prescriptions filled
I guess it doesn't seem like that much to do or buy, but nonetheless I haven't gotten to it yet.

Friday, April 13, 2007

Freaky foreshadowing?

Last night I fell and twisted my ankle quite badly. I can't even walk on it. Luckily I had arnica spray and a foam leg wedge to keep my foot elevated. This must be god playing a total joke on me and preparing me for lipo. I hate anything tight (socks, bras, etc.) and stay away from those skin indenting items. Well, of course I have my ankle in a brace and it's tight, but it feels so much better. I guess the garment won't be that bad, huh? I also have to keep my ankle elevated, which also feels better. Bad thing is, I can't work out, but I think that by tomorrow I can ride an upright stationary at the gym. Walking normally and getting back to running will be another thing.

Thursday, April 12, 2007

What to avoid before surgery

I don't take medications, but for those of you that do, I found a great website listing everything you should stay away from. This also includes some foods and supplements. I'm a big fan of glyconutrients and I am continuing to take them prior to surgery as they will not interfere with the general anesthesia.

Check the website out here; I'm sure it'll be helpful to some of you!

Oh, and whatever you do DON'T SMOKE! I was a smoker when I had rhinoplasty and I thought I was going to die. Smoking really slows down the healing process and with lipo, you want to heal quickly and show off your new body!

Foam under the garment

Yesterday I was told that I'll have foam under my garment. Having never heard of that, I turned to the ladies on both the liposite and makemeheal message boards. I found out that the foam helps with keeping your areas smooth and in place. Some ladies had the foam for a few days to over a week. It sounds like it'll make things a bit better. I'm hoping that it won't stick as that has happened to some women; ouch.

Whew, pre-op is over

My pre-op this morning went quite well. I had all my questions answered and I feel a lot more comfortable with my doctor. He told me not to take Arnica as many of his patients have had mucous develop around the incisions after taking it and bruising and swelling did not go away any faster.

2 more weeks! I'm so excited and a bit nervous. I was upset to hear that even after surgery my inner thighs will touch. This was really annoying to hear, but I have really thick muscular legs and the muscle extends too far; crap!

Sunday, April 8, 2007

Pre-op questions for my PS

My pre-op is on Tuesday and I have lots of questions. Here's my list, hope it helps with some of you out there. If you think I left anything out, let me know ASAP!

Supplements:

  • I want to take Arnica / Bromelain, how much and how often?
Realistic Expectations:
  • I really don't want my inner thighs touching when my feet are shoulder width apart
  • I want to keep the roundness in my butt
  • What is the expected contour / shape
  • What happens with future muscle development in thigh areas
  • Exactly what areas of the abs, thighs and knees will be done
Working out:
  • How much should I walk after the procedure. Is a mile okay? Can I walk on a treadmill?
  • Can I work out my upper body (weights) while I'm healing?
  • How about a stationary bike when I'm feeling ready (currently run and walk and I know running is too invasive)
Recovery:
  • Showering: when and how often? Do I need to keep my garment on?
  • Will I receive surgical socks after the procedure so the bruising and swelling do not go to my calves and feet?
  • Will I have stitches or open incisions?
  • When can I begin massage?
Diet:
  • I plan on following a low-sodium diet while eliminating all nightshades as well, how much sodium is allowed per day?
Travel:
  • Can I travel within 2.5 weeks?
Garments:
  • How long in stage 1? How long in stage 2?
  • Can I order an extra and what size (size I am now?)
My crazy question:
  • Can I sell my fat to make biodiesel? I'm not sure if I will ask this one, but it makes sense to recycle the stuff, right?

Before Pics

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

These pictures are a bit old so I'll post new pre-op photos before I go in for surgery.

The Day is Coming Near

I'm scheduled for liposuction on 4/25. This has been 12 years in the making. I made my first appointment 12 years ago with a plastic surgeon at Barnes Hospital. He was excited and told me of the areas that could be improved. I was elated! Since I worked at the medical school, my fee would be been waived by the doctor and I would only have to pay for anesthesia and the room—WOW! The doctor that I worked with talked me out of having it done, saying that women came in to the office wanting a body like mine, on and on. I believed him and didn't have the procedure. I was stupid in doing so!

Fast forward another 9 years. I go in for another consultation, this time, at one of the top plastic surgeons in Chicago's North Shore. I get my quote, everything is fine and I'm ready to commit. Oh no, sudden change in plans and had to move out of state. I considered traveling, however was too nervous about it.

Fast forward another 3 years. I made my appointment with Dr. Bruce White at St. Louis Cosmetic Surgery. I'm scheduled for abs, butt, hips, medial / anterior / lateral thighs and knees. I'm looking much forward to it and really wish I would have gone through with it when I was just 21 years old. Now I'm 33 and my body isn't the same was it was back then.
